Neroche Conservation Volunteers: Wednesday 10th October 2012
Conifer regen at Staple Common
We'll be continuing on a task that we started in July; cutting and stacking the small sitka spruce that have appeared after the clearance of this area in 2007.
If we left these small conifers growing, the area would soon return to conifer forest. This work will keep the forest grazing areas open so that the Longhorn cattle can browse more effectively on the understorey plants.
We will be using bowsaws and loppers for this task.

Wear suitable outdoor clothes, and boots. Bring packed lunch and water. Hot drinks will be provided.

Tasks vary throughout the year and include cutting and raking scrub, opening up glades or widening paths, all designed to help wildlife and keep areas accessible.
