Ancient Tree Mapping Course

A chance to learn the stories of our ancient trees, their history and ecology, and take part in a new census of these elders of the forest by mapping the oaks at Piddle Wood.  On hand will be Jonathan Spencer, one of Britain's foremost woodland ecologists, who will lead the day with Gavin Saunders.

During the day you will learn about the ecology of the Piddle Wood oaks, their recorded history, deliberate on their age, and learn a little about their cultural associations a mythology.  You will learn about scientific techniques for mapping and measuring the trees, and contribute to an important new database of one of the most significant concentrations of ancient trees in Somerset.

The course is suitable for adults and children over 14.
