Major works on Herepath
A major upgrade to the field-edge section of the Herepath at Staple Lawns, postponed from earlier this summer, is due to begin in September (weather permitting!).
The current Trail in this area is notoriously muddy and hard to follow where it emerges from the forest at Staple Lawns and crosses fields on Staple Park Farm. The upgrade work, organised with the support of Somerset County Council, will surface parts of the field edge sections, and will also re-route the Herepath outside of the farmyard at Staple Lawns Bungalow.
A diversion will be in force during the works - users should take note of signage directing them to the diverted route. It is hoped that the works will be completed by November.
Meanwhile, the section of Herepath south of Wych Lodge, in the forest, has a treacherous surface at present due to the scouring effects of the summer rains. Notices are in place marking the section in question, and users are asked to exercise great care due to the risk of ankle injuries for walkers or horses.
