Churchstanton, Burnworthy and Stapley
5 miles of excellent scenery
8 Km (5 miles)
This route is constantly undulating and is on footpaths, lanes and then back onto footpaths. The Blackdown Hills scenery is excellent throughout.
The old barn at Ringdown, within Ringdown Nature Reserve, is a typical example of a vernacular farm building from the 19th century. However this one has added significance, having been used as a subject by a group of landscape painters who spent time at nearby Applehayes in the early twentieth century. The artists, known as the Camden Group, included Spencer Gore and Robert Bevan. The barn has undergone restoration and is situated on Ringdown SSSI, a nature reserve that is managed by Somerset Wildlife Trust.
